The slum areas in Egypt is a symptom of more serious problems, mainly poverty and the presence of an inefficient government which is not accountable to its people. Through democracy we can choose to change the government if its performance is not up to the citizens' expectations. Now to cut a long story short, what can independent bloggers do ? We cannot solve the whole problem but definitely we can contribute positively towards its alleviation. How? Through many different ways and means. The more creative and committed we are towards solving the problem the better. Some proposed actions to alleviate the problem:
- More public awareness
- Fund raising to help people move to new houses in better communities
- In kind assistance (clothes, blankets, food,furniture) to make life more bearable
- Contacting private businesses to sponsor improvements in specific districts
- Whatever else you can think of
